An Introduction to Senegal by Gill Hollamby

 PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF SPEAKER.

Our talk this month is an Introduction to Senegal by Gill Hollamby. She will give an introduction to some of the common and more sought after species including Vultures, Gulls, Scissor-tailed Kites and Quail Plover.

The talk will take place in the Kennington WI Hall at 2.30 on Wednesday 20th November. Everyone welcome, a charge of £4.00 is made to cover costs.

Field trip to Dungeness on Thursday 19th September

 On Thursday September 19th, we will be visiting RSPB Dungeness and the "new" sand pits at Scotney,  meeting at the cinema car park at 09:15for car sharing. If you would like to come along, please email to let me know if you haven't already done so. Depending on where you live, if  its  more convenient to go straight to Dungeness, we should be at the main RSPB Visitor Centre car park at 09:50.  Could you let me know if you are plan to meet us there.

Wildlife of Estonia - a talk by Paul Hale - Wednesday 18th September

 Our first indoor talk will be on Wednesday 18th September. Paul Hale will share his experiences of the Wildlife of Estonia. Paul will cover the wildlife of Estonia in Spring and Autumn and will explore the customs, including the origins of the Christmas Tree plus a look at the capital,Talin.

 It will be held at the Kennington WI Hall, at 2.30 on 18th September.

A short AGM will be held this afternoon.

Our July Field Meeting will be to Oare Marshes, please meet at the cinema car park at 9.15 to car share and inform Heather if you are planning on attending.

We look forward to seeing a variety of waders and waterfowl.

All indoor meetings will be held on the third Wednesday of the month at Kennington W.I Hall, Faversham Road, Ashford, Kent, at 2.30 p.m. (between Lower Vicarage Road and Broadhurst Drive.) 
We plan to have outdoor meetings, details of which will be sent 2 weeks beforehand.
A reminder will 
be sent 1 week before.

Bird Senses and Migration.


Our last talk of the season is this Wednesday April 10th . The speaker will be Brian Nobbs and his talk is entitled "Bird senses and Migration".

‘Birds have a similar range of senses to us - vision, hearing, taste, touch, smell - but often with different sensitivity and the information from the suite of senses is collated and interpreted in the brain. The senses are called upon when birds undertake migration, this will be discussed.’

March Field Meeting - 19th March

 Our Field Meeting this month will be on March 19th, when we will visit Godmersham to look for the Little Bunting. We will meet at Cineworld at 9.00am. and will also look out for Buzzard, Red Kite, Wagtails and Nuthatch with a possibility of Little Owl.

Wednesday 13th March - The Birds of Paradise by Ray Hale

 

Our next zoom meeting will be on Wednesday March 13th with a talk entitled "The Birds of Paradise" by Ray Hale featuring a  trip to Raja Ampat, Papua, Indonesia in search of the birds and butterflies. Ray Hale is a new speaker for us and has travelled to Indonesia many times. This should be a very colourful and fascinating  talk.

 Our next talk on Wednesday 21st. Feb is by Andrew Lapworth who will share a recent trip to Costa Rica.
